Our Year 5 students will feature in an item on NRK's Supernytt tonight. NRK Supernytt is the daily newsbulletin for children on NRK, the national public broadcaster in Norway.
As part of the MOST research project, in which Birralee parnters with NTNU, Year 5 students were challenged to detect an environmental issue in their local environment and to do something about it using scientific methodes.
Year 5 was troubled by all pieces of gum that can be seen on the streets of Trondheim.
They decided to count them and discovered that there is an average of 16 pieces of gum per m2 in central Trondheim!
Inspired by this new found knowledge, they were determined to do something about it.
They decided to design and built their own protypes for gum recycling bins. They contacted both Trondheim Kommune and NRK Supernytt to share their ideas.
NRK Supernytt will be shown on NRK1 at 17:50 on Thursday, 20th January.
It can also be seen online using this link (starting at 6 minutes and 10 seconds) .
