Q&A with Ms Jones

In this series our students ask questions to Birralee Community Members. This week it is Ms Jones.

Why did you want to become a teacher?

I was working as a nanny in Italy after I left university and really enjoyed working with children so I decided to return to the UK to train to become a teacher.


Where did you work before you joined Birralee?

I worked at St. Louis school in Milan, Italy.


What is the best part of your job?

The teaching itself and the relationships I build with my classes. 


What is an unknown skill that you have that comes in handy at work?

I speak a few languages which can sometimes help.


Were you a good student at school? 

I was a very good student. I never dared to do anything wrong!


What was your favourite subject at school?

French, German and History


What’s your best memory you have from going to school yourself? 

When I was 13, I got to go to Japan on a school exchange. I stayed with a Japanese family and the daughter also came to stay with me in Wales.


What is the worst grade you got on a test? 

I had to do an A Level in General Studies and I got a D. 


What would you be, if you hadn’t become a teacher ? When I was little, I wanted to be a pilot and, when I graduated, I nearly went to work for the UK government as an interpreter. 


Which book should every student read?  

The Wind in the Willows. For me, Mr Toad is one of the greatest characters in literature.

Which historical event would you like to have witnessed? 

The building of the Great Pyramid


If you were the president of the world, what law would you introduce? 

Free healthcare and education for everybody or an end to political violence 


Have you ever met someone famous? 

I went to a conference with Dr Jane Goodall on sustainability in education. I also went to Sixth Form College with Ellie Goulding. 


What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love writing and art, as well as hiking and swimming. 


Which instruments do you play?

I can play the piano and have started learning the violin in the last year. 


What’s your favourite music album?  

That’s a very difficult question. I usually put on the album Score by 2 Cellos when I’m at home.


Have you ever been on TV? 

No


I’m going to the bakery. What will I order for you? 

An espresso and a pain au chocolat


What’s your favourite holiday destination? 

Sicily or Puglia in Italy


What makes you mad? 

When people don’t listen to each other or are just generally disrespectful


Which Friends character are you? 

Probably Ross


Are you a morning person or a night owl? 

Morning


Are you an early adopter or a late-adopter?

I would say late because I like to use things until I’m forced to replace them


Which countries have you visited?

Too many to list but experiences that stand out for me are Morocco, Georgia, Mongolia, Syria, Jordan, Japan and New Zealand.
