The spooky season is upon us, and for many of our students, Halloween is one of the most anticipated holidays of the year. From dressing up in creative costumes to finding the courage to walk through the school's Spooky Tunnel with your friends and classmates, this holiday is full of excitement and fun for kids of all ages.
At Birralee, we have long tradition of celebrating Halloween together. This tradition dates back to the early seventies of the previous century when a combination of Halloween and All Hallows Eve was first celebrated at Birralee.
Today, we enjoy the day by dressing up (voluntary), a costume parade in the gym for the younger classes, a spooky tunnel designed and made by our students, and a Spooky Door Competition between classes, organised by the Student Council.
Many teachers also use Halloween in their lessons as a source of inspiration in for example story writing and art. Below is an example of how Year 2 represented data visually through a pumpkin glyph:
