Birralee Today - Snapshot

Birralee is a place filled with countless opportunities for growth, learning, and creativity. Today was no different as students were engaged in a variety of activities throughout the day. We hereby share a few snapshots taken throughout the day.

Year 1 made Gingerbread Man Stick Puppets from the famous story. Year 1 parents can see their children perform the story on our digital learning platform.

In Physical Education, Year 6 had to cooperate in order to Cross the River. Different challenges were thrown upon them. They got to practice their skills in communication, adaptability, resilience and trust.

In Design and Technology, students in Year 6 explored different materials and shapes to see which combination would create the most effective parachute. They then tested their designs by dropping them from the fourth floor and observed how quickly they descended. Through this hands-on project, the students learned about the principles of air resistance and how it can be manipulated to slow down the fall of an object. They also developed their problem-solving skills as they iterated on their designs to improve their performance.

In Food Technology, the task was to reduce food waste by finding and following recipes with ingredients that were left over from previous projects.

In Art, the students worked on monoprinting with oil pastels. The results were astonishing!

The cold November rain kept ASP students mostly inside this afternoon. The students enjoyed themselves with a variety of free play options.

From the ASP Framework: The joy of creating, engagement and the urge to explore. Using children’s joy of creating, engagement and the urge to explore as a starting point, ASP shall provide a good framework for holistic development and learning. In ASP, learning primarily takes place through play, self-chosen activities and interaction with other children and staff. ASP shall recognise that play is typical behaviour among children, and that it has an intrinsic value. ASP shall prioritise time and space for play. ASP shall support children’s natural curiosity and desire to be creative, involved and exploratory. The content, working methods and physical environment in ASP shall support children’s desire to play, create, explore and experience a sense of mastering.
